PDF to Word

Convert PDF to editable Word document (.docx). Extracts real text, not images.

How to Convert PDF to Word

  1. Upload your PDF file
  2. Text is automatically extracted with formatting
  3. DOCX file downloads automatically

All processing happens in your browser. Your files never leave your device.

What PDF to Word Does

The tool reads the text layer of your PDF and writes it into a new .docx file, which downloads automatically. It works line by line: text that sits at the same height on a page becomes one line, and each line becomes its own paragraph in Word. Every PDF page starts on a new page of the Word file.

What It Keeps and What It Does Not

  • The text and the order of the lines from top to bottom are kept. Lines that contain only dashes, dots, underscores or similar punctuation are left out.
  • Font size is approximate. Nothing is written smaller than 12 pt, and within a line text can take the size of larger text before it.
  • Fonts and colours are not kept. All text is set in Arial.
  • Bold is a guess based on size: text larger than 14 pt is made bold. Bold and italic from the PDF itself are not read.
  • Position is also a guess. A line gets a left indent that follows where it started on the page, and a line that starts more than 30% of the page width from the left edge is centred.
  • Columns are not detected. On a page with two columns, text at the same height in both columns ends up on one line.
  • Pictures, drawings and table grids are not converted. Text inside a table comes out as plain lines.
  • The Word file uses A4 pages, whatever the page size of the PDF.

Limits

  • A page without a text layer, such as a scan, is not read. The Word file gets a one-line note for that page instead. This tool has no OCR; for scans use the OCR mode of the PDF to Text tool.
  • A PDF that needs a password to open cannot be converted.
  • One PDF at a time.
  • The tool sets no file size limit. The whole PDF is loaded into your browser's memory, so how large a file you can convert depends on your device.

What Happens to Your File

The PDF is read by code running in this page, and the Word file is built in your browser and saved through a normal browser download. Nothing is uploaded: the page sends no request that contains your file, and the site keeps no copy.
