Word to PDF

Convert Word documents (.docx) to PDF. Preserves text, headings, tables, and images.

How to Convert Word to PDF

  1. Upload your .docx file
  2. The document is parsed and rendered
  3. Use the print dialog to save as PDF

All processing happens in your browser. Your files never leave your device.

What Word to PDF Does

The tool reads your .docx file in the browser and rebuilds its content as a simple document: headings, paragraphs, bold and italic text, lists, tables and pictures. It then opens your browser's print dialog straight away. Choose "Save as PDF" as the destination and the browser makes the PDF. There is no preview on this page.

What It Does Not Keep

  • Fonts, font sizes, text colours and alignment from the Word file are not carried over. The PDF uses Arial, with fixed sizes for body text and headings.
  • Underlined text loses its underline.
  • Headers and footers are not included. If the page numbers were in the footer, you can put numbers on the saved PDF with Add Page Numbers.
  • Page size, margins and manual page breaks are not kept. The print layout is set to A4, and the text flows from page to page as your browser lays it out.
  • Tables keep their rows, columns and text, but their own borders and shading are replaced by a thin grey grid.

Limits

  • Only .docx files are accepted, one file at a time. The older .doc format is not supported. For a spreadsheet, use Excel to PDF.
  • The tool sets no file size limit. The whole document is loaded into your browser's memory, so how large a file you can convert depends on your device.
  • The PDF itself is written by your browser's print function, not by this page, so the result depends on the settings in your browser's print dialog.

What Happens to Your File

The document is read and converted by code running in this page. It is not uploaded: the page sends no request that contains your file, and pictures from the document are embedded in the print job directly. The converted copy is placed in a hidden frame of this page for printing and removed again a moment later. Nothing is stored.
